LIGHT PAINTING
What is Light Painting?
Defined by Wikipedia as:
“Light painting, also known as light drawing or light graffiti is a photographic technique in which exposures are made usually at night or in a darkened room by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera. In many cases the light source itself does not have to appear in the image. The term light painting also encompasses images lit from outside the frame with hand-held light sources. The first known photographer to use this technique was Man Ray in his series “Space Writing” created in 1935. The photographer Ellen Carey discovered Man Ray’s signature signed by penlight nearly 74 years after the pictures had been taken”
CAN YOU ZIG IT?
For the second time running, Reebok of RSH Malaysia gave Full Circle the opportunity to explore the wonders of light graffiti with the public in a huge dark room setup in the centre of a shopping mall. The event itself took three days, and runners came to try out the new ZigTech running shoes and to participate in a 48 hours treadmill challenge. There were runners running on the treadmills all the time, even while most Malaysians were sound asleep in bed.
Throughout the event, the light graffiti was affectionately known as ‘ZigIt’ and this concept was created by the creative minds of the Wheel Love crew (WL33.com). The concept of ‘ZigIt’ gelled perfectly with the Reebok ZigTech running shoes. This time around, it was open to public and more than 150 people had the time of their lives creating tremendous amount of ‘Zigs’.
Apart from working the camera in the pitch dark with two off camera flashes, there was lots of fueling up on coffee & Red Bull, as the crew needed to stay on their feet throughout the day to create art with the public. If, you’d like to see how it was done, we’ve got a ‘behind the scenes’ picture here too. Drop us a line if you still can’t ‘ZigIt’!
Also, check out the video edited by Jules here…. We had a Magic Arm which we attached to a Reebok bicycle, and oh, what fun it was to ride a bicycle in the mall in the middle of the day…. He he.
These images are great!!! Zig It allows you to express yourself with the LED pens by drawing anything on the air. Express your creative side.
I must say many walk ins had done such an amazing art work of their own. (except for me, who tried so hard to draw a ZigTech shoe, LOL)
Anyway, I love all the pictures that have been uploaded here. And a BIG thanks to the team for doing such a good job for this. Apart from being helpful, you guys amazed me with the dedication and effort on this. Reebok is proud of you! 🙂
Well done, Team!

Awwww… thanks guys. It was fun and we would love to do it again!
Impressive!!! I hope reebok has something like this next year or in another mall soon! I would love to attend!
Yes, yes, you should attend! Reebok was so generous, to allow the public to take pictures, and collect the prints on the spot, free of charge!
